How to Make a Jean Pocket Purse in 6 Simple Steps
Ready for a fun and easy DIY? I’m going to teach you how to make a jean pocket purse. We all have a pair of jeans sitting around that we no longer wear, and this is a great way of repurposing them to make an accessory that is both stylish and practical.
Tools and materials:
- Jeans
- Ruler
- Fabric marker
- Iron
- Purse strap (with buckles)
- Scarf
1. Mark and cut the back of the jeans
You don’t want the back rise of the jeans to feature in your purse, so you’re going to use the material on either side of it. Draw two same-size rectangles on both back legs. Don’t cut along the side seam but proceed to cut along the two other sides.
2. Mark and cut the front of the jeans
When you’ve cut out the back rectangle, open it up and draw the same shape onto the front of the jeans. Proceed to cut this out. Do this for both sides of the jeans so that you will have two pieces of fabric - one for the front of the purse and one for the back.
3. Sew together
Place the pieces one on top of the other, right sides touching, and sew the two-width sides and the bottom side using a zigzag stitch. Once done, turn the purse right side out, pulling out the corners of the purse.
4. Iron
The next step is to iron the fabric down so that it is nice and flat.
5. Sew on another belt loop
Take a belt loop off of your jeans and sew it onto your purse at one end of the long top edge.
6. Attach a strap
Attach a strap to your purse, putting the buckles through the belt loops on either side.

And here is the completed DIY jean purse! You can side a pretty scarf through the belt loops and tie it at the front to jazz it up a bit. The bag is the perfect size to hold all of your essentials, and the fact that it’s made from denim means that it’s nice and sturdy.
