How to Cut a Long Shaggy Bob: Easy Step-by-Step Tutorial
In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to cut a long shaggy bob. We all enjoy going to the salon from time to time, but sometimes it just isn't practical. During lockdown, I started cutting my hair myself, and in this tutorial, I'm going to show you how I did that.
My hair is cut in a lob, meaning that the back is shorter than the front, and I'm going to show you how you can cut a lob at home.
I can cut the sides of my hair pretty well and pretty often, but the back is a little bit trickier because of the angle. If I'm not careful, the back will end up the same length or longer than the front, and I don't want that; I want the front longer than the back.
Tools and materials:
- Comb
- Hair clips
- Hair tie
- Hairdressing scissors
1. Divide your hair
Start by separating your hair into sections so that you only cut the hair you want to cut. Pull aside the sections at the front that you don't want to trim.
2. Comb
Comb out the section that you’re going to cut so that it’s nice and smooth.
3. Tie your hair
Next, you're going to tie up the section that you want to cut. Take a hair tie, look down and tie it up right at the nape of your neck. Tie it quite tight so that it won't slide, and as you're looking down and pull it so that it's at the nape of your neck.
4. Cut
Next, raise your head, take the little bit of hair that you've tied up and just snip off the end. This cuts off the dead ends and blunts your hair. I actually like the ends of my hair to be quite blunt.
5. Feather
Now that you've blunted the ends, go in and just feather it a little bit.
6. Level the rest of your hair
Once you have the back cut, you want to make sure that you have a good blend from the back to the front to have a seamless finish. So come around with the back part of your hair in the comb and cut the sides to blend it in a little bit.
Then, proceed to snip some hair off of the sides and feather it a little bit and do this all the way to the front part of your hair.
How to cut a long shaggy bob tutorial
That is how you can cut a lob haircut at home. My hair is shorter now in the back than in the front, so I have that angle that I want. I’m really happy that I could do this at home by myself, so if you can’t get to the salon, don’t despair.
Follow this tutorial, and you can get that cut that you want!
