Today I am showing you how to do threading on facial hair. Threading is literally removing facial hair with a standard piece of cotton thread. It is a super easy and cost-effective method of hair removal!

Tools and materials:

  • Cotton thread
Making a loop out of thread

1. Make the thread loop

Make a loop with the thread about the size that I am doing as pictured and cut.

Tying the ends of the thread together

2. Tie off the thread

Tie the ends together to create the loop.

3. Twist

While holding the loop in both hands, twist one hand around a few times to create a spiral in the center.

4. Learn to work the thread

Hold each side of the thread looped around each hand.

As you open one hand wide, the spiral will move to the other side.

If you open and close your hands quickly, the spiral will move back and forth quickly.

This quick movement of the spiral is actually what will rip out your facial hair.

Eyebrow threading

5. Threading eyebrows

Align the thread along the shape of your eyebrow and then open your hand to move the spiral and rip out your hair.

The great thing about threading is that it makes your eyebrows into a beautiful straight line.

Repeat on the bottom of your brows.

Be more gentle on the bottom of your brows because the skin is more sensitive there.

6. Threading upper lip hair

To thread other facial hair, it's the same process as the eyebrows.

The only difference is I try to pull my skin as tight as possible to help with pain management. Do not mind my interesting facial expressions!

That is pretty much all there is to threading. It takes a little bit of practice but once you get it down it is really easy to do. Also, it is such a convenient method of hair removal because thread is so cheap and everyone has it!

I have my face and brows threaded at a salon but never thought to do it myself. I'm going to give it a try. Thank you for the tutorial!

This looks not too difficult, I am going to try it!

AND: What's wrong with being a little more open minded? Threading facial hair is as valid a way to remove facial hair as tweezers, waxing, or electrolysis.
