How to Make a Bandana Headband Out of Fabric in 8 Simple Steps

Hey, everyone! In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to make a bandana headband out of fabric. This simple and easy DIY is a great project for anyone looking for head scarf ideas or has been in the market for an elastic bandana headband, but couldn’t quite find one they liked. Grab any fabric you like and let’s get started!
Tools and materials:
- Fabric
- Elastic
- Scissors
- Safety pin
- Sewing pins
- Sewing machine
- Needle and thread
1. Prepare your materials
For this project, you’ll need two pieces of fabric. One, you’ll need a bandana piece which is a pentagon that is 18 inches wide and 12 inches tall, with 3-inch sides. Two, you’ll need a strip of fabric that is 12 inches x 2.5 inches. You’ll also need a piece of elastic that is 5 inches x 0.25 inches.
2. Pin and sew the edges to hem
Hem each side of your bandana piece by folding the edge twice and pinning it.
Then, flip the fabric over and sew where it’s pinned.
3. Pin and sew the strip
Next, fold the 12 in x 2.5 in strip of fabric you cut out earlier horizontally and pin it. Sew along the open edge.
4. Turn the strip inside out
Pin a safety pin to one side of the strip and push it through the opening to turn the fabric inside out.
5. Insert the elastic
Similar to the previous step, pin a safety pin to one side of the elastic and use it to insert the elastic into the strip, and pull it out the other side.
6. Pin and sew the elastic
Pin both ends of the elastic together and then hand sew them.
7. Sew the elastic strip to the bandana
Now, attach the strip with the elastic to each end of the bandana, folding each half of the 3-inch side of the bandana over the elastic strip.
Pin the fold closed and then sew the ends.
8. Cut the excess
Cut the excess thread.
