How to Make an Easy Fermented Rice Water for Healthy Hair and Skin
In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to make fermented rice water for your hair and your skin. It’s so easy to make and has a lot of great benefits.
Rice water benefits for hair
Rice water contains carbohydrate inositol which improves hair length and elasticity, and reduces friction that can cause breakage.
It is also a natural conditioner, can reduce hair lice, accelerates hair growth, and its amino acids can strengthen the roots of your hair.
How to use:
After your normal hair routine, drain all of the water from your hair and apply the rice water to your hair.
Massage your scalp and your hair, then let it sit under a shower cap for 15 minutes to an hour.
You can choose to rinse it out or leave it in as a leave-in conditioner and style it as usual.
Rice water benefits for the skin
Rice water is full of vitamins B1, C, and E. Its natural minerals tighten, brighten, and soften the skin.
It can also reduce the appearance of pores and relieve inflammation from acne, rosacea, or eczema. It also acts as a great face toner.
How to use:
Clean your face with a face wash, then apply the rice water to your skin with a cotton ball to tone it. Do this in the morning and at night. Let it dry, and then apply lotion.
Now, let’s get into how to make this rice water DIY for face and hair. There are two rice water recipes you can do. The simplest way is to make rice and simply keep the water, but the slower and more patient way is to ferment it. For this tutorial, I’ll be showing you how to make fermented rice water.
Tools and materials:
- Mason jar (or glass bottle)
- Organic rice
- Distilled, or purified, water
1. Add rice to a jar
Add organic rice to a jar. I’m using brown basmati rice, but any rice works).
I eyeballed the quantity of rice I’m using. You can use more or less.
2. Fill the jar with water
Boil and cool distilled or purified water and fill up the jar.
3. Let the rice water ferment for 1-2 days
Close the jar and let it sit by the window for 1-2 days. Make sure you shake the bottle once in a while.
After a couple of days, the water will look very cloudy, which is an indication that it’s fermenting well and it’s ready to use.
How to make fermented rice water
That’s it for this rice water recipe. Make sure to use this mixture within a week as it will turn bad afterward.
I like to add a few drops of essential oils to deal with the overwhelming smell. Lavender and rosemary are both very good for hair and skin.
This product is great for all hair types, and it’s so simple and budget-friendly to make while still being full of good properties.
