If you’re into mermaidcore, you’d probably love the idea of threading real seashells into your long mermaidy hair.

It’s not that easy, but I finally worked out a way to do it without your hair getting tangled and knotted.

Tools and materials:

  • Small sea shells
  • Tubular beads
  • Glue
  • Nylon thread
Gluing shells

1. Beads

Use small sea shells and put a drop of glue inside each.

Adding bead

Press a tubular bead on the glue and leave it to dry.

Adding thread

2. Nylon thread

Push a loop of nylon thread through the hole in the bead. Make the loop large enough to go over your hair.

3. Your hair

Thread a strand of your hair through the loop and slide the loop up your hair until it’s in the right position.

Sliding

4. Slide

Now pull the nylon thread back through the bead, carrying your hair with it.

This method works the same way as those old-fashioned needle threaders.

It’s definitely kinder to your hair than trying to thread it through a hole in the shell.

You can position the loop where you want the shell to be, so you don’t have to damage your hair by forcing it through the bead either.
