In this mask-proof lipstick tutorial, I’m going to show you how to stop lipstick from smudging and feathering. It’s a simple hack that will save you a ton of annoyances. Scroll down and let me show you how to be lipstick-ready after taking off your mask!

  • Mirror
  • Waterproof lip liner
  • Highlighter
Waterproof lip liner

1. Use a waterproof lip liner

A waterproof lip liner is the best base for durability and long-lasting wear. It should not feather or fill in the fine lines between your lips. I personally like the Charlotte Tilbury lip cheat lip liner, but you can use whatever waterproof lip liner you like.

Tip: The lip liner should be soft and easy to apply, so there are no drag lines on your lips.

Applying mask-proof lip liner

Simply apply it all over your lips, instead of lipstick, to give your lips a head start! Gently start with the outer lines of your lips, then fill in your lips completely.

The tissue test for smudge-proof lipstick

After, try the tissue test, and see for yourself that the pigments do not transfer. That’s what you want, a color that literally sticks to your lips!

2. Add a highlighter

So, you could stop right there if you want an overall matte look. Personally, I feel it’s a little dull. I prefer to liven up my lips with a bit of highlighter. Here, I’m using the Venics & Organic glow melted highlighter in a warm, neutral tone.

Applying highlighter to lips

Using your middle finger, dab the highlighter onto your lips, as shown. Remember not to add too much; all you need is a dab to add some much-needed shine and dimension to your lips.

I guess if you are going to take the mask off at some time, you'd want to do this. But when I go grocery shopping, I don't wear lipstick. I use the kind in a skinny tube wit a dear paw applicator that's like paint. It never comes off.
