How to DIY the Half Bleached Jeans TikTok Trend at Home
In this tutorial, I'll show you how to make DIY half bleached jeans at home. I saw this half bleached jeans trend on TikTok and knew I wanted to give it a try.
I had a bit of a mishap along the way, but that's all part of the fun! When my half bleached jeans didn't work out the first time, I found a solution and I think the results look pretty cute.
It didn’t end up the way I expected, but you can learn from my mistakes and solutions when you make your own.
Tools and materials:
- Jeans
- Tape
- Rubber bands or hair ties
- Bleach
- Plastic bag
- Plastic gloves
1. Tape your pants
Tape down the center of the jeans to keep the bleach from bleeding to the other side.
2. Roll & scrunch one jean leg
I was aiming for a tie-dye look on my half bleached jeans. So, I scrunched the pant leg I was bleaching into a ball and tied it off with a rubber band.
I didn't have rubber bands, so I used old hair ties and they worked just fine. Roll, scrunch, and tie the leg up all the way to the thigh.
3. Bleach the jeans
Place the leg you don’t want bleached in a plastic bag and place the jeans in your bathtub.
Make sure you put on your gloves.
Once that’s done, saturate the leg you are bleaching in bleach and leave the jeans in the bathtub for about two hours.
4. Bleach the other leg
Once the two hours are up, place the jeans in the washing machine on cold and then dry them.
This is when the project should be finished, however, as you can see in the image above, the bleach bled onto the wrong leg.
To fix the pants I decided to go bleach the second leg as well, so I will have one tie-dye leg and one completely bleached leg. It still makes half bleached jeans, right?
This time, I chose to use gel bleach to give me a little bit more control. I grabbed a sponge and rubbed the bleach into the pants to make sure they really turned white.
5. Rinse the jeans
To finish the jeans, rinse off the bleach, place them back in the wash, dry them off and try them on!

I love how they turned out!
I love the design of these! Being unique is key! A word of caution; even though they are washed after using bleach they should be neutralized so that the bleach does not continue to damage the fibres. I'd hate you bending over and having them rip open. I used 'oxyclean' after rinsing as it produces the same things as the suggested peroxide. This fabric has lasted great for years now. I also used the folding Shibori method
