DIY Star Keychain Tutorial
Today I'm making these cute star keyrings.
My niece, Lynda Tomalin is an author and she has a book launching soon. For her pre-order customers, she wanted to make these cute little keychains with the stars.
Of course, I thought this was a great idea. I don’t know where she got the original image so I apologise if it was yours. Please contact me and I’ll give credit.
With Christmas coming up, I think these would make an ideal teacher’s gift too.
Materials
The supplies you need to make this key ring are really minimal:
- 6mm Gold Jump Rings x7
- 10mm Transparent Glass Star Beads, one of each:
- Pink
- Light Cyan
- Clear
- 8mm Purple Electroplate Synthetic Hematite Star Bead x1
- 25mm Gold Split Ring x1
- 20 Gauge German Style Gold Wire x 30cm
- 5cm Gold Headpins x 4

Step 1 - Make the Star Dangles
These are so cute – I wanted to make hundreds of them but I limited myself to the 4 I needed.
I can’t guarantee that I won’t be making more of these key rings though. Thread a star bead onto the headpin from the bottom of the star.
Bend the wire to a right angle at the top of the bead. I find if I place my thumbnail on top of the bead, it helps it to bend.
Using the flush side of your flush cutters, cut the wire at about 1cm from the bend.
Make a loop in the wire using the round nose pliers. If you’ve never done this before, I’ll show you how in this video.
Repeat this step with the other three star beads.
Step 2 - Join the Dangles to the Split Ring
Open a jump ring and feed on the split ring and two jump rings. Close the jump ring.
If you haven’t used jump rings before you can watch this video.
Using the diagram below, add the jump rings and star dangles.
Open another jump ring and feed on one of the stars and then one of the jump rings you have just added to the split ring.
