I adore making jewellery from old crockery and it’s always so rewarding to make something out of what others are throwing away!

when I get this box of old broken ceramics I was so delighted at all the jewellery I could create.

Old crockery

The brooches are so easy to make and I begin by finding some pieces to cut with wheeled tile nippers .

Always wear safety goggles to prevent eye injury.

The china is easy cut with nippers and just keep shaping around the designs you like.

Once you find the rough idea and shape it’s time to smooth the edges with a sander wheel attachment that I use on a dremel. It makes a nice smooth finish and you can shape it accordingly to what size you like.

Also it’s important to rough up the back of the ceramic piece ready to give a good surface to glue a brooch pin easily to it.

Rough up the back

Next I mix two part epoxy resin glue especially for jewellery making and useable on ceramic. It’s a pea size of each and mix well. Spread evenly onto the back of ceramic and onto the brooch pin and then fix this into place and let it dry for 30 mins.

I am so pleased it’s turned out well. Ready to wear proudly 😁
