Spiral notebooks and earring hooks

1. Spiral earrings

For the first tutorial, all you need is a couple of empty notebooks and two earring hooks.

Removing cardboard and paper

Start by removing the cardboard front and back, plus any remaining paper bits that are left in this groovy, spiral part.

Looping the earring hook around the spiral

Next, grab one of your notepad springs and your earring hook. Loop the earring hook around the end of the little spring.

2. Metal spiral earrings

Because I only had one metal spiral, I went ahead and chopped it evenly in half. It was really easy to do with just a pair of scissors.

Then, I simply added my earring hooks and landed with these pretty adorable short springy DIY notebook spiral earrings.

Adding nail polish to water

I’m not happy with this color, and some of the paint has chipped off. So, I will jazz them up a little! Here, I have an old plastic container, and I've filled it with enough water to submerge my earring into it. Then, I added some nail polish to the water.

Dipping the earring into the nail polish

Dip your earring into the water and nail polish.

And…. It’s perfectly colored! Now, repeat it with the other one and let it out to dry.

3. Spiral necklace

Some notebook spirals are absolutely huge, and I think this one will make a great necklace.

Wide-linked chain

So, I just looked in my jewelry box and found this wide linked chain. The links are big enough to go around the spiral.

So, simply open up each end with pliers and attach it.

4. Spiral pin

This notebook spiral has an interesting shape. So, if you have the same, measure it on your neck and pull it apart a bit. Bend it into shape as evenly as you can.

Applying glue to the pin

Next, grab your handy hot gun and pop a little bit of glue on the back of a pin.

Attaching the pin to the spiral

Then, stick it to the spiral. Note that I stuck mine on the boring side, I wanted the interesting part to stick out.

Painting the pin with nail polish

You’ll notice my spiral is a shiny black, and the pin is silver. So, I grabbed black nail polish and painted the pin (both front and back). Like this, it will blend in better. When you’re done, set the pin aside to dry.

5. Spiral bracelet

Let’s move on to the next DIY notebook spiral accessory. School notebooks have super long spirals. Also, these can easily be wrapped back onto themselves when you twist them together.

So, to make a bracelet, wrap it around your wrist and decide how long you want it to be.

Cutting the spiralto the right length

Once you have it measured to where you want it to be, by hooking it together, chop off any excess with a pair of scissors.

Tip: You could make another pair of earrings from the excess piece.

Looping the ends together

Spiral the ends together a little bit, and make sure you can still get it off and on.

Securing the spiral in place with hot glue

Next, grab your glue gun and secure it.

How cute is that? You could also grab beads and feed them through the spiral. Ensure you do this before you stitch the ends together.
