How to Make a Cute DIY Tracksuit Jumpsuit
In this tutorial, I'll show you how to make a DIY tracksuit jumpsuit out of a joggers and hoodie set. If you love the sophisticated look of jumpsuits but are more of a joggers-and-hoodie kind of girl, this is the tutorial for you! Here’s how you take comfy to sultry in a few easy steps.
Tools and materials:
- Joggers
- Hoodie
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Seam ripper
- Pins
- Measuring tape
- Marking chalk
- Shoulder pads
- Needle and thread
1. Modify the hoodie
First, zip the jacket up so the zipper is all the way at the neckline. Use the seam ripper or scissors to remove the hoodie’s pockets.
Measure where you want to have the pockets. Here, I have moved them higher.
Cut the bottom of the hoodie about 4 inches or 14 cm from the button, going through the zipper. Fold the raw edges. Pin them in place.
Place the shoulder pads in position and line the edges up. Move the shoulder fabric inward to cover the edge of the shoulder pad. Add ¼ inch seam allowance. Mark the fabric at the spot on either sleeve. Remove the shoulder pads.
Cut the first sleeve. Use this sleeve as a pattern for the other sleeve. Set both sleeves aside.
Pin all the raw edges about ½ inch or 1.5 cm inward. Hem the sleeves and sew the pockets with a straight stitch.
Backstitch on the zipper to lock it into place.
Fold the shoulder pad in half and place it into the shoulder area of the top. Pin in place. Hand-sew the shoulder pads using a top stitch and knot on the inside.
2. Modify the joggers
Flip the joggers inside out. Flip the cut sleeves inside out. Place the cut-off sleeves on the bottom of the joggers to the desired length.
Cut the bottom of the jogger legs to match the sleeves and insert the sleeves at the marked area. Pin in place and sew together.
3. Attach the top and bottom
Flip the hoodie inside out and upside down. Lay the hoodie at the first seam line of the joggers. Make sure the zipper is at the front of the joggers. Align the seam sides. Pin everything in place.
Stretch sew using a zigzag stitch.
Hem all the raw ends using an invisible stitch.
