Makeup is all about enhancing your natural beauty, and having hooded eyes is a unique canvas to work with.

Today, I'm sharing my go-to everyday makeup look for hooded eyes. If you've been struggling with how to make those beautiful hooded eyes pop, you're in the right place!

Tools and materials:

  • Assorted makeup brushes
  • Face sunscreen
  • Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Cream blush
  • Neutrals eyeshadow palette
  • Setting powder
  • Mascara
  • Brow gel
  • Shimmer highlighter
Applying foundation

1. Apply a base and foundation

Always start with a glowing, healthy base. I love using sunscreen as the base for my makeup. Next, apply your favorite type or foundation or tinted cream.

2. Apply concealer

If you have dark, under eye spots or acne, use a concealer in those areas.

I work with 2 shades of concealer. When I’m especially pale, I only apply the lighter shade. Most of the time I mix the 2 shades. At my tannest, I wear only the dark shade.

3. Skip the contouring and apply blush

My favorite way to add definition to my face is with a cream blush and I skip the contour altogether.

I apply blush to accent the cheekbones, eyelids, forehead, wherever you would usually do contouring.

Adding blush

Now for the most important part–the eyes! I’ve developed my makeup routine for hooded eyes over 7 years of trial and error.

I know how to pose my eyes so that they look great in photos, but in person, I really depend on this method to maintain the look that compliments hooded eyes.

4. Darken the hooded portion

The difficulty with hooded eyelids is that the outer edges are too bright compared to the rest, which gives this hooded appearance.

Start by applying a neutral eyeshadow shade that is slightly darker than your natural coloring to this area.

Applying eyeshadow

Check that you like the shape and shading of this portion when your eyes are completely open as well.

5. Add wings

Use a darker, brown shade on a thin brush to draw the wings. If you want more “graphic” lines, use a wet brush.

Be sure to draw the wings reaching a bit further out from your eye so that whether your eye is open or closed, the hooded portion won’t cover up the wing.

Applying eyeshadow

6. Apply the same shade to your inner corners

Outline your inner corners with this same shade for a dramatic effect.

7. Set

Use a small amount of setting powder on a brush to set your makeup.

8. Apply mascara

Apply your favorite mascara to add contrast to your lashes.

I’m applying it to my top and bottom lashes, only on the outer lashes, for a “cat eye” effect.

Adding mascara

9. Tame your brows

Apply a clear gel to get your brows to stay in place.

10. Add shimmer accents

With a small brush, add some gold shimmer highlighter to the inner corners of your eyes and even at the bridge and tip of your nose.

Use your finger to dab this in slightly.

11. Line your lips

Use a lip liner that’s 1 shade darker than your natural lip color to line your lips.

Blend the edges with your finger and leave everything matte for a natural look.
