Today, I was inspired by a pair of men’s pants that my boyfriend was about to throw away.

Follow along to see how to alter men’s pants to fit you. This little menswear moment is just a quick alteration. Let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Men’s slacks
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing machine and thread
  • Iron
  • Ironing board
Before

1. Find the correct waist and pin

Try the pants on first. While I love the low waistline, it just doesn’t look polished enough when they are this baggy.

Finding correct waist

Pull the pants up so that they sit higher, at your waist. This way, the crotch will be in the right place.

Then fold the waistband vertically so that it sits snugly at the hips. Do this on both sides.

Pinning

Pin them in place. I changed the directions of the folds and I like it best this way:

2. Sew

Next, remove the pants and sew the folds down, on the space between my fingers here.

3. Iron pleats

Then, iron down the folded fabric to create a pleat on each side.

And there you have an easy way to alter a pair of men’s pants to fit you!
