With this super easy method, I will show you how to make stacked pants using two pairs of sweatpants. Let’s get stacking!
Tools and materials:
- 2 Pairs of sweatpants
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Pins
- Sewing machine
- Matching thread
1. Cut the sweatpants
For this tutorial, it’s best to get a pair of old sweatpants to cut up. Start by cutting off the bottom legs and placing them on top of your other sweatpants.
2. Measure the bottom piece
Now, go ahead and measure the cut-out piece. Mine was 17 inches.
3. Cut off the cuffs
With a sharp pair of scissors, cut off all four cuffs just above the seam.
4. Pin the sweatpant layers
Turn one of the leg pieces inside out and with the wide side on top, insert it through one of the legs of the sweatpants, as shown.
Next, align the side seams and both layers at the bottom raw edge.
Tip: Be sure not to rush this step, do it carefully so that the results look cohesive.
5. Sew the sweatpants
Now, sew both layers by stretching the fabric. Also, sew all around with a zigzag stitch. Be sure to repeat steps 4 and 5 on the other leg, too.
When the sewing part is complete, this is what it should look like.
6. Press the pants
Pull the bottom downward, and give your pants a good press for a clean, finished look.

Nope, I don't need to make my ankles and calves look thicker. All my pants look like this until I shorten them (5'1")
