Peggy Carter Hair Tutorial: 2 Agent Carter Hairstyles to Try at Home
In this Peggy Carter hair tutorial, I’m going to show you how to style two of the character's iconic looks. One is based on the TV series Agent Carter and one is based on the Captain America movies.
If you’re a fan of Agent Peggy Carter and vintage hair in general, now you can recreate her 1940s hairstyles for yourself. Let’s jump on in!
Tools and materials:
- Large rollers
- Hairnet
- Hairbrush
- Styling wax
- Alligator clips
- Comb
- Hairspray
- Backcombing brush
- Bobby pins
Agent Carter hairstyle (TV series)
1. Put hair in rollers overnight
For the first look, do an overnight wet set using large rollers (I used foam ones). You also want to put a hair net over the rollers because it keeps the curls in place and helps to prevent frizz.
I did alternating directions with my curlers to get more of a wavy curl. I parted my hair at one side and then added the curlers going under, over, under, over.
I wanted to fit in as many rollers in the front as I could, so I ended up taking smaller sections of hair.
2. Take out curlers
Now it’s time to take out your rollers. You want to make sure that you unroll them instead of pulling them out of your hair because that will create frizz. Shake the curls up a bit to break them up.
3. Brush curls
Next, take a hairbrush and brush out the curls, and you’ll be able to see a nice wave.
4. Apply styling wax
The next thing you want to do is tame some of the fuzziness. I am using a styling wax that will weigh my hair down a bit. If you have finer hair, you might want to look for something that is water-based.
5. Brush hair
Now what’s left to do is shape your hair out. On the side of my head where I’ve parted less of my hair, I like to brush it back and down.
Once I get down to the end, I like to brush it around my thumb so I get that nice bit of end curl.
6. Clip on alligator clips
To reinforce any type of wave in the hair, use alligator clips. If you do not have these, then use what you have.
Put the alligator clips in your hair at the points where you’d like to reinforce the wave and apply some hairspray to stiffen your look.
7. Brush hair and pin
At the top, I like to brush back and then brush forward a little bit. Before you pin your hair into place, style it to get it just how you want.
Make sure that you don’t pull the clip out as you brush the rest. Let the alligator clips sit for a little while so that they lock in the curls.
8. Brush
Once some time has passed, you can remove the clips. To finish off the look, I like to take a dense, backcombing brush my hair out a bit because we don’t want it to look smooth and lay too flat to the head.
This is our first look for Agent Carter. All you need now is a sassy red hat.
Peggy Carter's hair in Captain America (movie)
1. Backbomb the side
For the second look, start by breaking up some of the hair spray that’s in your hair. Then, grab the section of hair on the side with the smaller parting and do a little bit of light backcombing on the back of it to give it some volume.
Then you want to smooth out the backcombing and add a little bit of spray.
2. Twist
Next, grab the hair and give it half a twist, and then push it forward. That gives it some nice volume on the side.
3. Pin
Pin the section up. Make sure that while doing this, you’re crossing your bobby pins, especially if you have a lot of hair.
As you can see, I’m getting some separation in the hair. That is bound to happen, especially when you’re using rollers. Just take your brush and brush over that hair until it comes together. Then give it a spray.
4. Brush
Grab hold of where you’ve pinned your hair down and give everything a good brushing.
5. Backcomb
Next, section off the bangs section and divide it in two. Then backcomb on the sides of each section away from the parting. Add some more hairspray and lightly smooth out your backcombing.
6. Push up the wave
Gather up the ends of the hair, and push your hand under the wave to give it a little bit more lift.
7. Twist and pin
Then twist your ends and bring the section round to the back of your hair and pin it in place.
8. Twist and pin the final section
The next thing you’re going to do is take the remainder of the hair on the side and brush that up as well, gather it, give it a bit of a twist, and bobby pin it into place.
Here we have look number 2. Now all you need is to find yourself a Captain America!
