Dry Lips? Try This Easy Shea Butter Lip Balm Recipe Without Beeswax

Today, I'm sharing my shea butter lip balm recipe without beeswax. I love making my own beauty products. It feels so rewarding to make my own things rather than have to go to the store and buy them.
Not only are a lot of beauty products really easy to make, when you make them yourself, you know exactly what is going inside them. For example, those that follow a vegan lifestyle would prefer not to use beeswax.
In this DIY, I’m going to be showing you how to make your own lip balm at home using all-natural products.
Tools and materials:
- Candelilla wax
- Coconut oil
- Shea butter
- Onguard essential oil
- Melissa essential oil
- Heat-safe airtight container
- 10 lip balm tubes
- Plastic pipette
- Measuring spoons
- Pot with lid
Note that this DIY lip balm uses candelilla wax instead of beeswax. Depending on which essential oils you use (always check the labels), then this can be a completely vegan DIY lip balm recipe.
1. Place a pot of water on the heat
To start, go ahead and fill your pot halfway with water and then place it on a medium-high heat.
2. Shea butter lip balm recipe
While that heats up, get your heat-safe container ready. Add two tablespoons of coconut oil, two tablespoons of candelilla wax, and two tablespoons of shea butter.
3. Place the container in the pot
Secure the lid and place the container inside the pot. Then put the lid of the pot on. By now, the water should be hot, so be careful. You’re going to check on this every five minutes.
Use tongs to take the container out because it will be very hot.
Give it a shake to incorporate the ingredients; you want a smooth, clump-less mixture. If it’s not ready, put the lid back on and check on it in another five minutes.
4. Add oils to the mixture
When there are no clumps, remove the mixture from the pot and remove the lid. Add seven drops of onguard essential oil, seven drops of melissa essential oil, and stir to combine.
5. Fill up the tubes
Next, grab a lip balm tube and a pipette and fill the tube all the way to the top. Repeat for all of the rest of the lip balm tubes (this recipe makes enough for 10).
6. Leave to set
Now set it aside and give it time to harden, leaving the tops of the tubes open. You know they are ready to use and completely hardened when the color goes from transparent to opaque.
Now all that’s left to do is add all the caps.

That was such an easy DIY, and now you have 10 tubes of homemade lip balm using natural ingredients. They make excellent gifts that I guarantee will be very well received.
I hope that, like me, you catch the bug for DIY beauty products. As I said, it is so rewarding to make your own things.
