Skeleton Nail Design Tutorial for Halloween

In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to do this skeleton nail design for those of you in the market for cute Halloween nails. This skeleton nail art is so easy and quick to do, you’ll be shocked at how something so cool isn’t too complex!


You’ll only need two colors, black and white, so grab your nail polish and let’s get started.

Tools and materials:

  • Base coat
  • Black nail polish
  • White nail polish
  • Clear nail polish 
  • Thin brush 
Applying base coat

1. Apply base coat

Apply a glossy base coat over the entire nail.

2. Apply black nail polish

Cover the entire nail with black nail polish.

After it dries, apply a second coat of black nail polish for a smoother, more finished look. Let it dry.

Drawing the skeleton's head

3. Draw the skeleton’s head

Let’s get started on the skeleton. First, use the dotting tool to draw a circle at the base of the nail in white nail polish.

Adding eyes

4. Draw the skeleton’s eyes

Use the dotting tool to add two dots to the white circle with black nail polish to create the skeleton’s eyes.

5. Draw the skeleton’s nose

Add an additional dot between the center of the eyes to create the skeleton’s nose.

6. Draw the skeleton’s body

To start drawing the skeleton’s body, use a thin brush and draw a line down from the center of the head to the tip of the nail to create the spine.

Adding lines

Draw two lines that angle outward and then back in to form the shape of the rib cage.

Finishing off the rib cage

Finish the rib cage by connecting the spin to the outer rib shape with small v’s.

7. Draw the skeleton’s mouth

Use a thin brush and black nail polish to draw a small line for the skeleton’s mouth.

8. Apply a top coat

Apply a glossy top coat over the top of the nail.
