DIY the Perfect Wrap Skirt With a Stunning Leg Slit
Wrap skirts are all the rage! Rather than search for one in the store, I decided to make my own! I love that I could choose my own fabric and work on creating the perfect skirt. This skirt is so sleek with a professional finish and of course, it has a gorgeous leg slit! What more could you need for a wrap skirt? If you want to learn how to make this stunning, fashion-forward piece, this tutorial is definitely for you! Follow my step-by-step guide and start making this beautiful wrap skirt that is bound to become a new favorite!
Tools and materials:
- Fabric
- Measuring tape
- Tailor’s chalk
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Pins
- Seam ripper
To start creating this gorgeous skirt, mark the right measurements on your piece of fabric. For the width, mark your fabric by measuring half your hip size with an added 4 cm. For the length of the piece, mark the length from your belly-button to just above your knee.
Cut along your markings. Once you have finished cutting, you will already have the back piece for this stunning skirt.
With your back of the skirt ready, it’s time to measure the front. For the width, measure half your waist size with an added 6 cm. For the length, mark 75 cm. Cut at your markings to get the first front piece for your new skirt.
Now it’s time to mark the slit of the skirt which is such a gorgeous feature! Draw a slanted line from the top corner of the skirt to about 10 cm down on the other side. Cut along this line to get the amazing slit!
To get the second part of the front skirt, measure and mark the width of your waist and once again a length of 75 cm.
Once the second front piece is cut out, draw a slanted line starting at 15 cm from the bottom to the other corner of the fabric. Make sure to then cut along your marking.
Finally, it’s time to start assembling this amazing skirt. Place the second front piece over the back piece and then layer the first front piece over that.
Mark 4 cm inwards from the waistline and mark 25 cm from the edge of the waistline in length. Draw and cut a slightly curved line. Then repeat the same for the other side of the waistline. Make sure that after cutting the width of the waistline is half your waist measurement plus 2 cm.
To give this skirt a professional, fitted look, draw two triangles on the back piece 14cm long and at an equal distance from each other. Fold the triangles and pin them at the fold. Sew along the pinned line to create two perfect darts at the back of your skirt.
While you’re at the sewing machine, give your skirt a gorgeous finish and prevent fraying by overlocking all the edges of the pieces with a zig-zag stitch.
Next, place all the pieces of the skirt together and start pinning along the sides. Once all your pins are in, sew the two sides together.
To hide the cutting, double fold the waistline in and then sew down the fold. This will definitely help give your skirt a more professional finish! Repeat this step for the two sides of the front skirt and for the bottom of the skirt.
Cut out two strips of fabric that will become the ties for this incredible skirt. The shorter strip should have a 70 cm length and the longer one should have a 120 cm length with the width of both at 10 cm.
Fold the strips in half and sew them to make the ties. Make sure to turn the ties right side out after sewing and then press the fabric flat.
Attach the long tie to the inner front piece and the short tie to the outer front piece. It’s amazing to see this skirt finally coming together!
For the final step, use a seam ripper to make a hole by opening up one of the back darts. This will be for the long tie to go through so that you have the perfect wrap skirt!
This wrap skirt is absolutely stunning! How would you style this piece? Let me know in the comments below!

I love this! Do you think I could use a light weight knit fabric?
This is great. I am not a jeans person so I'm always looking for a good skirt pattern. I definitely wll try it.
