Soothing Oatmeal and Coconut Milk Bath Recipe

This DIY oatmeal bath recipe is so easy to make and is soothing for irritated or dry skin.
A good bath can serve as more than a way to practice self-care (although that’s one of my favorite reasons for a bath!). This oatmeal, lavender and coconut milk bath recipe is soothing for dry or irritated skin and perfect for those with eczema.
This oat and coconut milk bath recipe packs some serious moisturizing properties in with just a few ingredients. Oats are soothing and can help protect skin, while coconut milk is moisturizing and leaves skin so soft.

Oatmeal has lots of skin-loving benefits that make it perfect for a soothing bath soak. Oats act as a skin protectant, they are soothing and they have anti-inflammatory properties. Oatmeal baths have historically been used for those with skin irritations or eczema, and can safely be used for kids, babies and adults.
ground oats are exactly what they say they are – whole oats ground up to a fine consistency. A home coffee grinder or food processor does a good job of creating ground oats, however you may still have some chunks. If you’re looking for a powder fine consistency, I suggest purchasing colloidal oatmeal.
colloidal oatmeal is ground to a much finer particle size than can be created at home. It is super similar to ground oats, just made into a finer grind than most people can create on their own.
Oat flour is finely ground oats that have had the bran particles removed. Removing the bran allows the oats to be ground to a much smaller size, however the bran is where lots of the oats benefits are stored. This is no the preferred option for skin recipes.
The bottom line is this: colloidal oatmeal does not have any added benefits over ground oats. The main difference between them is in how finely they are ground.
Yes, you can use regular, store bought oatmeal for an amazing homemade oatmeal bath. Simply grind the oats in a blender, food processor or coffee grinder and add to your bath. Many recipes call for colloidal oatmeal, which is simply super finely ground oats with smaller particles than you can likely achieve at home.
You will still receive all the amazing benefits of an oat bath soak by using regular oatmeal and grinding it at home.
I love to use powdered coconut milk in my oatmeal milk bath recipe because it’s so easy to use, it keeps
well and it makes for a seriously luxurious feel in the tub.
The first time I tried powdered coconut milk in my bath, I was blown away at how soft my skin felt afterwards. No need for bath oil or any additional moisturizer when you use coconut milk in the bath because it’s loaded with natural moisturizers.
Coconut milk is naturally hydrating, it’s loaded with healthy fats and packed with antioxidants. It’s a perfect pair with oatmeal for a super soothing homemade bath recipe.
Ingredients

This recipe uses equal parts ground oatmeal, powdered coconut milk and dead sea salts for a luxurious and soothing bath you can whip up in no time. -
1 cup ground oats (or colloidal oatmeal) -
1 cup powdered coconut milk -
1 cup dead sea salts
- Measure oats and
grind in a blender, food processor or coffee grinder until mostly powdery (some
chunks are ok) - Combine the ground oats with the coconut milk and dead sea salts, stir together
- Use approximately 1 cup of mixture per bath
- Store in an airtight jar for up to 3 months
Makes enough for 3 baths You may add a few drops of your favorite essential oil if you like – lavender is my favorite for this!
You can also add dried lavender flowers to the oats before grinding them for a subtle hint of lavender flower in your bath.
