The Lisa Cardigan: A New February Seamwork Pattern Release

The Lisa cardigan is a fun, satisfying project that is perfect for pairing with vintage buttons. It has a relaxed, roomy fit that is ideal for layering. The dropped shoulder, faced V-neckline, and cuffed sleeve give is a classic, casual feel.

I downsized to a size 10 based on the 8" ease across the bustline. I am really pleased with the fit. As I was using a lighter weight knit I didn't want it to be too oversized. I decided to add a waistband to my cardigan so that it had a more casual look. To create the band I cut a band 1" shorter than the bottom of the finished bodice and 4" high so it could be doubled. I sewed the short ends together than attached it to the bodice.

As this is a February pattern release I thought it would be fun to create it in a red crepe-style knit. Crepe is a fabric has a crinkle, crimped or grained surface. It is versatile and stylish and often works as a great transition fabric that goes from day to evening depending on how you accessorize it and layer it. This particular knit is like a scuba crepe knit that has a spandex blend for easy wear. It has the wonderful grainy crepe texture on the right side and a smoother scuba-like finish on the backside.

The button V-Neck front on this cardigan makes it a versatile layering piece that can also be worn on its own, with a sweater or with a silk cami in warmer weather. It will be a great piece for packing as it is lightweight and can be used in a variety of creative ways.

I am already looking for a heavier knit fabric to make a more oversized version with. This pattern will be fun to use as a basis for lots of adaptations. You can lengthen it and add patch pockets for more of a "Grandpa" style sweater which would be very cozy.
