Creating a Matching Top for My Black Skirt
I’m bringing you guys along while I’m creating a matching top for my black skirt.
I had a strip of fabric left over that was wide enough to make a top that is somewhere between a tube top and a corset.
Grab some fabric to make this simple top for yourself.
Tools and materials:
- A panel of fabric wide and long enough to wrap around your torso
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Pins
- Ribbon
1. Measure and cut
For the front piece measure and cut a trapezoid shape that covers your bust and reaches slightly past to the front and back half of your torso.
You will also need to cut two smaller pieces for the back that are the same length as the front section on one side and smaller on the opposite side.
2. Sew
Pin the edges of one back piece to the side of the front piece with the right sides facing in. Sew them together.
Then do the same with the other back piece on the opposite side.
3. Finishing touches
Overlock all the raw edges. Then take one edge of the back piece and fold the length an inch inward. Sew it down.
Do the same thing on the other back piece.
Then cut three holes along the length of each side. Lace a ribbon through to create the closure.
Lastly, you can also add straps to the top if you like.
