The Undercover Top is an easy fitting t-shirt pattern that is perfect for layering or wearing as a statement T-shirt. It is a wardrobe essential that can be made in variety of fabrics. Sewing Revival has definitely come up with a winning pattern that will be in high rotation in my capsule wardrobes no matter what the season.

The Undercover Top comes with a variety of sleeve choices; long, short, half and sleeveless tank options. The top offers two necklines; round and scooped. It offers a snug fit across the bust with a positive ease around the waist so that it isn’t too tight! It is the perfect choice for so many outfits. Depending on which fabric you choose it can be a casual basic or a more formal layering piece when created with a sheer fabric.

The pattern is a very quick, simple sew offering one piece front and back bodice pieces. The neckline is finished with binding. Different sleeve lengths offer different finishing options using binding or cuffs. The options and combinations of fabric are endless.

For my long sleeve cotton waffle weave underwood I made the size 12 through the neck and shoulders and graded down to a size 10 through the hips. The bodice of the top has generous length, for the first time ever I did not have to lengthen it! I usually have to add anywhere from 3-6” for my 6 foot frame. I did not have to add any extra length to the sleeve either, such a treat. The cuff is a nice addition and finishes a classic top very nicely. You could also make the long sleeve without a cuff for a simpler look that is more like a classic t-shirt finish.

For my short sleeve undercover I used a faux suede. This is a more clingy knit so I made a size 12 and cut it straight down from the underarm. This allowed for a bit of extra drape through the bodice giving the top more of a blousy finish. The short sleeves are finished nicely with a binding. It coordinates well with the binding on the neckline and it gives the overall shirt that little bit of extra detail and finish.

Both tops are finished with a double needle hem giving them a refined, polished look.

Once you have created your just right-pattern for the just right-fit for your Undercover Top you will use this pattern over and over again. Not only is it an easy sew, it is an easy chic garment to wear.

The Undercover Top was designed for wearing under the Dunedin Dungarees so you know what is next on my make list. Watch for my next post! If you buy the pattern bundle you can save 25%. Stay tuned for the post with my new overalls paired with my undercover tops, and possibly one more….
