How to Achieve a Gorgeous Updo With Natural Hair
In this tutorial, I'll be showing you how I do an easy updo with natural hair. It's very easy, it takes no longer than five minutes and it looks very chic. If you’ve been looking for a quick updo style for natural hair, you’ve come to the right place - this look is for you.
Tools and materials:
- Small and large bobby pins
- Hairbrush
1. Style your hair
I'm starting with a twist-out style, but you don't have to, you can start with your regular hair.
I'm not going to use a hairbrush because I don't want to disturb the pattern from the twist out, but if you're starting out with your regular hair you can certainly use a brush to smooth down the edges.
2. Tuck and pin your hair
To achieve the look, take the hair in the back and start to roll it and tuck it under, use bobby pins to secure it in place as you go.
Start from the top of your hair and work downwards, tucking your hair in a French roll style.
3. Add more pins
When you’ve finished the first set of tucks, go again to make sure they're secure.
You can use larger bobby pins as well, sometimes regular-sized bobby pins just don't hold as well for big natural hair.
4. Fix up the back
When you’ve finished tucking and pinning the back, check the back of your hair with a mirror to see how it looks and make sure you’re satisfied with it.
Also, take a look at your roots to make sure there aren’t any poofy bits of hair that are sticking out.
5. Fix up the front
Lastly, fix up the front. As you can see, I’ve left the front part of my hair out. If you didn’t start with a twist-out but instead had your hair in its natural style, you can just twist the front part out.
Make sure that the hair at the front is shaped or falling in the way you want it to. You can also pin the front down a bit to secure it, but you want to make sure the pins aren’t visible.
Of course, you could also achieve this style using all of your hair and not leaving the front part out of it; whatever you prefer.
Updo with natural hair
Here is the finished look. I told you this is an easy style and it's something you can do if you just want to pull your look together and still look chic. It’s so quick to achieve and I hope you’ll give this French roll-inspired look a go.
