How to Make an Easy, No-Sew DIY Sweater Christmas Stocking
It is time to revamp your old holiday sweater with this DIY sweater Christmas stocking! This handmade stocking is super easy to make. It’s time to decorate that fireplace!
Tools and materials:
- Old sweater
- Yarn
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
- Chalk
- Pins
1. Create the outline
Outline your desired shape of the stocking on an old sweater using chalk.
2. Pin together
Pin the two layers of the sweater together so that it holds in place while you cut.
3. Cut it out
Cut out the stocking, leaving an inch more than the chalk lines you sketched out earlier, for seam allowance.
4. Flip
Flip the fabric pieces so that the right sides are facing together.
5. Glue together
Hot glue around the inner edges where it would normally be sewn together. You can sew this together instead of using hot glue if you would like.
Let it dry, then flip the stocking right sides out.
6. Make the pompoms
Wrap thick yarn around two fingers until it is thick enough to make a puffball.
Slide the ball off your fingers, and use another piece of yarn to tie a knot around the ball you have just created.
Make sure to leave the long piece of yarn attached after tying the knot, for later.
Cut all the loops open using a pair of scissors.
Trim and shape your pompom as you would like.
7. Attach the pompoms
Using the long piece of yarn that you left earlier, tie your pompoms together and attach them to the stocking using hot glue.
Trim off the excess edges.
8. Prepare the rope
To hang your stocking, braid three pieces of yarn together and knot the end.
9. Attach and hang
Hot glue the braid to the inside top of your stocking, then hang it over the fireplace for Santa to fill with goodies!
