With this tutorial, turn your hair into a gorgeously patterned waterfall half-up style that is sure to get you compliments. Let’s get into it!

Tools and materials:

  • Rubber bands
Sectioning front

1. Section the front 

Starting with a middle part, section the front of your hair into a triangle shape. 

Tying off

2. Tie it off

Tie it with a clear rubber band, and tighten it.

Creating three equal sections

3. Create three equal sections on each side

Section one side of your hair into three equal sections. Repeat on the other side.

Splitting section

4. Split the section into two

Split the front triangle section into two.

Combining sections

5. Combine the front and second sections

Combine each part of the front triangle section with the section behind it and combine it with a rubber band.

6. Combine the second section with the third section

Combine the front and second sections with the third section on the opposite side to create an ‘X’ shape.

7. Combine the third section with the last section

Combine all of the hair in the third section with the final section on the opposite side, creating another ‘X’.

8. Combine a rectangle section with the final section

Section off a rectangle that spans the length of the front section and three boxes and combine the hair with the final section on the opposite side.


Do this on both sides.

9. Combine the last two sections together

Combine the final two combined sections into one. 

Flipping tail

10. Flip the tail through the section

Flip the tail through the hole created in the final section, creating a waterfall-like ponytail.
