I love to upcycle and repurpose my old jeans normally these are for things for the home but lately, I have made a couple of fashion items. From a really cool braided denim bracelet to these fun denim bows.

The denim bows are really easy to make and can be worn as a bow tie or as a hair clip.

I actually made two types of denim bow one with scrap jeans fabric and another with the waistband from jeans. I will show you the scrap fabric one here but you can find the other one on my blog link in the bio at the end.

The first thing to do is to paste the fabric scrap with Mod Podge. Do it on the wrong side of the fabric and leave it to dry. This will enable you to cut the denim without it fraying.

Download the free bow templates from my site and draw around them onto the denim.

Then cut out the two shapes.

Fold the longer piece so the ends meet in the center and stitch them in place.

Then stitch this onto the other cut out denim shape. Again just stitch in the center.

Tidy up the bow by stitching a denim belt loop around the middle.

To turn the finished bows into bow ties just add elastic to the back of a clip. The same with hair ties and grips just add elastic or a clip to the back. The bows would also make a great decoration on a handbag.

It's fun to make a few bows in different shades of denim. I have a tutorial for some wonderful denim flowers on the blog that would also look great as hair ties or bag decorations.

Suggested materials:
  • Denim scraps from old jeans
