Learn How to Easily Make a Turban Headband for Your Baby

There is nothing, and I mean nothing, cuter than a little turban headband on a baby. It brings together their outfits and makes them look absolutely adorable. Buying tons of headbands can get expensive, though, so I decided to make my own, instead. In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through the steps of creating your own turban headband from scratch for the little cutie in your life.
Tools and materials:
- Cloth (any stretchy fabric)
- Needle and thread
- Scissors
- Pen
- Ruler
You’re going to start off by measuring and cutting your fabric to the necessary measurements. You need a square that’s 46 cm x 46 cm (18.1” x 18.1”). Once you’ve got that cut out, fold the fabric in half, wrong sides together, and then fold it again.
Take your ruler and, starting at the fold on the top right corner, measure out 23 cm (9”) and mark it. Then move your ruler in a circle, always starting from the same point, and continue measuring and marking 23 cm (9”). Then connect your markings in a curve, and cut it out.
Using your needle and thread, start hand sewing ½ cm (0.2”) from the rounded edge, creating your hem. When you reach the end of the fabric, don’t knot the thread just yet.
You’re now going to gather the fabric at the edge. Start pulling on the thread, and pushing the fabric together, creating a tight ruffled look. Once you’ve finished gathering the fabric, tie together the two ends of the thread.
Cut out a strip of fabric that is 120 cm (47.2”) long and 7 cm (2.8”) wide. Grab the end of the strip, and wrap it a couple of times around your fingers. Then sew that part together.
Wrap the strip around your fingers one more time, then insert it through the fabric already around your fingers. Continue inserting the fabric through the hole, wrapping it around the circle of fabric. When you reach the end of the fabric, sew it to the bun.
Place the bun onto the headband, right on top of the gathered fabric, and sew it down. Sew from behind the bun, going all the way around. Once you’re done with that, your turban headband is complete!
That’s it! Making this turban headband is so quick and easy and it looks absolutely adorable on a baby. I had so much fun making this, that I think I might make a bunch more in different colors so that I can match it to all her outfits. I’d love to see your babies wearing the unique headbands you created for them, so don’t forget to post a picture in the comments!
