How to Make a Funky DIY Ruffle Scarf in a Few Simple Steps
Whatever the weather, I’m always in the mood for making a DIY ruffle scarf; they are so fun and funky and always put a smile on my face. In this tutorial, I’m going to walk you through step-by-step how to make one. Pull out your knitting needles, and let’s get started!
Tools and materials:
- Knitting needles
- Yarn
- Scissors
1. Create six stitches
To start off, grab the end of the yarn and put the needle through. That will be your first stitch. Then hold the fabric out by about an inch (2.5cm), put the needle through again, and that’s your second stitch. This scarf is going to have six stitches across in width, so repeat the process six times.
2. Make the second row
For the second row, hold the fabric out by about an inch (2.5cm), put your other needle through the first stitch, grab where you’re holding, and pull that through. Watch the video to see the full technique.
When you get to the last stitch on the first row with your second needle, make sure you grab all of that yarn when you bring the stitch through.
The further apart you do your stitches, the more swirl the scarf is going to have.
This yarn is a little different, but I’m going to do the same basic technique. I’m only going to do four stitches though, because it stretches out more.
3. Finish the scarf
To finish off, instead of grabbing one stitch, you want to grab two at a time. And for the last row, since there are only three stitches left, I’m going to grab them all, but this time bring all the fabric through. With that, make a knot, cut off the extra, and you’re done!

That ruffle scarf is out of style, for a while now. About 5-6 years ago it was
a thing but not now.
Styles do come and go but they always come back again. This does look like it would be a fun way to get back into knitting.
