Today, I’m going to be showing you six ways to wear a másání scarf. I love shopping at thrift stores for vintage scarves and my favorite has to be the másání scarf.

Másání scarf meaning

Másání is a Navajo word that translates to “grandma,” and the másání scarf meaning influences its title, as it has been long worn by our beloved grandmas. Keep reading to find out how to wear a másání scarf!

1. Oversized bow

Folding the másání scarf

1. Fold the scarf

Fold the másání scarf in half into a triangle. Fold the tip of the triangle down to the long edge.

Rolling the másání scarf

Roll the blunt tip of the triangle down until it reaches the long edge.

Folding the second másání scarf

2. Fold the second scarf

Fold a second másání scarf in half into a triangle. Fold the tip of the triangle a third of the way down.

Rolling the second másání scarf

Roll the blunt tip of the triangle down just once until it aligns with the long edge.

Forming a cross with the másání scarves

3. Form a cross with the two scarves

Lay the second scarf down over the first scarf to form a cross.

Tying a bow with the másání scarves

4. Tie a bow

Pinch the part of the second másání scarf where it intersects with the first másání scarf.

Adjusting the bow for volume

Tie the second scarf into a bow. Adjust to your liking. You can pull at the bow to give it more volume.

To wear, tie the ends of the scarf around your back and tuck the ends underneath.

Wearing másání scarves as a bow bandeau top

This style is so cute. I love the oversized bow. This looks great worn over a simple t-shirt but can be worn over a strapless dress as well.

2. Corset belt

Wrapping the másání scarf around the waist

2. Wrap the scarf around your waist

Wrap the scarf around your waist and tie it in the back. Tuck the ends so they aren’t visible.

Wearing the másání scarf as a corset belt

This corset does an amazing job at defining your waist so you have an hourglass figure. I’d wear this with a t-shirt dress or oversized top to accentuate the waist.

3. Bow accessory

Folding the pink scarf

1. Fold the scarf

Fold a másání scarf in half into a triangle. Fold the tip of the triangle down to the long edge.

Rolling the pink scarf

Roll the blunt tip of the triangle down just once until it aligns with the long edge.

Threading the másání scarf through a belt loop

2. Thread the scarf through your belt loop

Pull the scarf through your first belt loop. Make one side longer than the other, so the ends are even when tied.

3. Tie a bow

Make a loop with the shorter side and use the longer side to go around the loop. Pull through it to make the bow. Adjust to your liking.

Wearing a pink másání scarf as a bow accessory

This másání scarf fabric style is the perfect accessory for any outfit. If you want to wear this on a dress or pants with no loops, you can tie this onto a belt instead. This is the perfect way to dress up a basic t-shirt and jeans outfit.

4. Scarf top

Folding the longest edge of the másání scarf

1. Fold the scarf

Fold a másání scarf in half into a triangle. Fold the longest edge of the triangle up just once.

Wearing the másání scarf as a top

2. Put the scarf on

Flip the scarf over and put it on as a top. Secure by tying it in the back.

This top looks best when the scarf hits just below your waist so that’s why I shortened it.

With spring and summer coming around, this colorful floral print will be the perfect piece to wear, especially since it’s open in the back. To make this top stand out, pair it with white denim jeans.

5. Scarf bandeau

This next look is a modified version of the previous top. All you have to do is tuck in the bottom half of the scarf so the bottom is a straight line.

Wearing a Navajo másání scarf as a bandeau top

I recommend wearing this with high-waisted jeans or trousers for a chic look. You can even pair a matching blazer with it as well.

6. Asymmetrical top

Fold a másání scarf in half into a triangle. Fold the tip of the triangle a third of the way down.

How to roll and fold a másání scarf

Roll the blunt tip of the triangle down just once until it aligns with the long edge. This should match the width of the bandeau top from before.

Placing the másání scarf across the chest

2. Place across chest

Place it across your chest and wrap it around your shoulders so that the ends meet. Tie it in place.

I’ve been obsessed with asymmetrical tops lately as they’re super eye-catching. If you have two of the same colored scarves, you can use them to create this top or you can mix and match colors as I did.
