How to Make Cute DIY Crop Tops From Tights
In this tutorial, we’re going to show you some cut DIY crop tops made from tights. These tights are very easy to make, and no sewing machine is required. You’ll be amazed at how we transform a simple pair of black tights into a trendy top.
Tools and materials:
- Tights
- Scissors
We’ve seen these kinds of tops on Instagram on Pinterest recently, and they give off a fierce and cool vibe.
Style 1
1. Cut the tights
Cut a hole in the crotch area of the tights. Then cut the part for the feet off.
2. Put the top on
Put the top on, putting your head through the hole you made in the crotch and your arms through where your legs would usually go. You now have the basic top shape, wear it with a crop top or bralette underneath.
3. Cut the design
Cut out and form whatever design you want to achieve. It helps to have someone do this for you so that you can wear the top while they cut.
But, if you are doing this DIY by yourself, you can try to cut the top while you’re wearing it or alternatively take the top off and cut it. For this design, we cut slits all the way down the arms.
To achieve the design, you then need to take the second strip of fabric and pull it under the first, then pull the third one under the second, and so on and so forth. Repeat this pattern all the way down the sleeve and then pull the final strip around your wrist like a bracelet.
The finished sleeve design looks super cool and we also cut out an interesting asymmetrical shape at the top of the top too.
Style 2
1. Create the design
Repeat steps 1 & 2 from the previous look to create the shape of the top.
For this design, we cut slits down the arm as before, only this time down both arms. Then we cut out small strips from the extra fabric and used them to tie bows on the sleeves.
Simply bunch two strips of fabric on the arms together and then tie a bow in the middle. You may need someone to help you do this.
The finished design looks very intricate and unique.
Style 3
1. Get cutting
For the third design, cut holes down the chest area. Then cut strips from the extra fabric and as we did with the previous design, bunch two strips of fabric together and then tie a bow in the middle.
This looks so fly!
Style 4
1. Snip the shoulders
For this look, cut holes in both shoulders but ensure that the top stays intact. Then wrap the strands on either side around your neck to make a halterneck.
For the arms, we made holes in the elbows and then also made a tie at the top on either side.
