Today, I'm here to show you a braid hack that I think is SO neat. This braid hack is going to be great for those who have trouble braiding or are beginners.

This fake braid looks like a mix between a fishtail, regular braid, and pull through braid. Let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Hair brush
  • 2 stretchy hair ties
  • 1 clear hair elastic
Regular, 3 strand braid

Here is a regular, 3 strand braid that I’m showing you for comparison.

1. Brush and split

Brush out any knots and bring your hair to one side.

Then split the hair into 2 equal sections. Make sure they are even!

2. Tie each section

Next, tie each section with the hair ties just below your ear, just tight enough so that the hair stays in place.

3. Weave the inner section through the outer section

Grab the outside section, furthest from your face:

Holding hair

Create an opening, right above that hair tie and stick your fingers through it.

Then take the other section of hair and pull it right through the opening.

4. Repeat

Continue this process, pulling down the hair tie even lower, making a hole, and pulling the other strand through, until you reach the end of your hair.

The hair ties are likely to get loose toward the bottom since there is less hair, so just tighten them when necessary.

5. Secure and perfect

At this point, simply pull off the hair ties, pinch the bottom, then secure the end with a clear, hair elastic.

Securing fake braid

Pull gently at each section to add more volume to the braid. The end result looks like a cross between a pull through braid and a fishtail.

Now you tell me, are you team “three strand braid” or team “braid hack”?

This quick braid hack is an easy option if you struggle with the traditional braid. It eliminates the struggle of holding a bunch of sections of hair as you go, plus the method is repetitive.
