Tools and materials:
- Pasta Machine: Mont Marte Clay Press
- Snowman shaped cutter
- White Sculpey Premo
- Burnt orange Sculpey Premo
- Rose gold Sculpey Premo
- Ecru Sculpey Premo
- Precision knife
- Dotting tool
- Oven
- Black, brown and pink acrylic paint
- Acrylic paint sealer
- Detail paint brushes
- Earring hardware
1. Press the white clay
Press about 3 oz of white Sculpey Premo clay in a clay-press to make it smooth and to remove any bubbles.
2. Cut out your shapes
Use your shape cutter to cut out a bunch of snowmen from the clay (depending on how many you plan to give).
3. Add a headband, scarf and nose
You can choose whatever colors you want.
Cut a bunch of thin strips from the tan clay for the snowmen's headbands. Press them on to your snowmen.
For the scarf, I mixed a sparkly color with the tan.
Once you’ve blended those colors, cut out a few rectangles. Twist them to give some shape to the scarf.
After pressing them on the snowmen, you can tweak the shape a bit to make it look realistic.
Using a precision knife, cut out little triangles for the carrot nose. You might need to pinch it a bit to get the right shape and size.
4. Make indentations for the eyes, mouth and buttons
Using a dotting tool, poke two eyes on each snowman. Later we will fill them with black, acrylic paint.
Repeat all of these details for all of the snowmen you plan to make.
5. Make a hole for the hardware, then bake
Poke a small hole at the top of your snowmen using the dotting tool.
This will be where you attach the earring hardware after cooking the clay. Then, set your oven to 275°F and cook them for 20-25 minutes.
6. Paint on eyes, nose and buttons
Using black acrylic paint and a detail brush, fill in the indentations that you made earlier.
7. Add more painted details
(See video 10:00 -11:38)
Paint on designs on the bodies of the snowmen. I chose to decorate them with a flower and branch pattern.
8. Seal and add hardware
Once the design is dry, apply an acrylic paint sealer. Then, after the sealer dries, add the earring hardware.
