Are you bored of your standard little black dress and are looking for something a bit different? Unique? Out-the-box?

I have just what you’re looking for. Here, I’m going to share with you a cute LBD upcycle that is super beginner-friendly.

Tools and materials:

  • Little black dress
  • Scissors
  • Stretchy fabric
  • Sewing machine
Cutting dress

1. Cut dress

Start by cutting two U shapes out of your little black dress.

I placed my dress on a mannequin to do this, but you can just lay your dress down flat if you don’t have one.

I cut the U-shapes to go up to where my thighs are.

Cutting fabric

2. Cut fabric

Next, cut two long pieces of stretchy fabric into rectangular shapes.

Sewing

3. Sew fabric

Pull the fabric taught from the top and the bottom while you’re overlocking or doing a regular zigzag stitch, and that will create long, wavy bits.

Sewing

4. Connect to dress

Finally, sew them around the U shapes on the dress that you cut before.

Here is the finished look. I love how the long strips of stretchy black fabric fall down like long octopus tentacles. Their wavy design is super funky and really adds some personality to this look.

I also like how the skirt exposes my thighs on either side and then has a longer strip in the middle. Give this a try for yourself!

You keep going Girl! Don't let the haters get ya down. I might be too old for this, at least this short, or revealing. I might try a little more modest version, it's a cool idea. Thank you
