This Cute DIY Multiway Dress Can Be Worn 4 Different Ways

Are you feeling creative and want to know how to make a multiway dress? Well, you’re in luck because in this tutorial I will share the steps for sewing a DIY multiway dress that can be worn strapless, one-shoulder, off-the-shoulder, or with a wide boat neckline. Let's get started.
Tools and materials:
- Fabric
- Elastic
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- Pins
- Fitting dress as a guide
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Chalk
1. Make the DIY multiway dress sewing pattern
Fold your fabric in half, and fold again. Then, pin the layers so that the fabric doesn't move out of place.
Fold your favorite dress in half, lengthways, and place it on top of your folded fabric, on the fold. Next, trace out the shape of the dress.
If your dress has a neckline, fold it in as there’s no need to trace the neckline.
Next, carefully pin the dress to the fabric, making sure all layers of fabric are straight and not out of place.
Now, cut around the dress.
2. Sew the side seams
Place both pieces on top of each other, right sides facing, pin the sides, and sew to secure.
3. Hem the edges
Fold all the edges of the dress twice, pin all around, and sew. This includes the bottom of the dress, the armholes, and the neckline.
4. Make the top ruffle piece
Cut to pieces that measure 30 x 12 inches. With both pieces facing the right sides, pin the short ends and sew to secure.
Also, while you’re at it, go ahead and fold the raw edges of the ruffle piece. Pin and sew all around for a lovely clean finish.
5. Attach the ruffle piece
Now it’s time to assemble your multiway dress. To attach the top ruffle piece to the dress, you must make sure both pieces are aligned. So, start by finding the center of both pieces. Fold the dress in half and pin the middle neckline.
Align both pins from each pin, and pin both layers in place. Make sure both pieces are right sides touching.
Pin both layers where they touch (this means that you should not sew the sides). Now, sew to secure.
6. Sew on the elastic
It’s the final step! Measure your shoulders and cut a piece of elastic accordingly.
Make a tunnel for the elastic. Do this by folding over the top part of the fabric by about 2 inches. Pin, and sew, leaving a 2-inch gap to feed through the elastic.
Using a safety pin as a guide, attach it to the end of the elastic, and insert it through the tunnel.
When you’re done, simply sew the short ends of the elastic either by hand or with a sewing machine.
Then, the final step is to stitch the opening. Again, you can either opt to do this by hand or with your sewing machine.
