How to Rock a Fake Ponytail on Short Hair: Trying Out Hair Extensions
In this tutorial, I’m going to be trying out some hair extensions for the first time. If you want long hair, but you have short hair, what can you do? Well, the answer is this right here. I have here a fake ponytail for short hair, which I’m going to put on, and I’m excited to see how it looks.
Tools and materials:
- Faux ponytail
- Bobby pins
- Hair elastic
This is what the back of the ponytail looks like, and then you have a piece to wrap around. These extensions are the 18" e-litchi ponytail extension.
1. Tie your hair up
Start by tying your hair in a high ponytail on the top of your head.
2. Apply the fake ponytail
Place the fake ponytail on top and wrap it around your ponytail. Then, pull the Velcro piece around.
3. Wrap around the hair strand
Take the extra strand of hair and wrap it around to conceal the piece of Velcro. You want to wrap it around as many times as you can until you reach the end. Then, take a bobby pin and secure that little piece of hair in place.
You also have the option to create a bun simply by wrapping the ponytail around and sticking one bobby pin in it. Take note y’all - just one pin.
You could also braid the ponytail. That would look really cute.
You could also use a curling iron because the wig is made from 100% human hair, and you can curl human hair. That would be fun to try out.
How to care for hair extensions
Make sure to take care of your hair extensions. Have a read of the instructions for use on your extensions and follow what they say. The packaging I have here says you need to use cool or warm water to wash them.
You wash them with shampoo and brush the shampoo in gently. Then use a conditioner, rinse thoroughly and apply a cream rinse. I will probably use the same products that I use on my hair.
So my final thoughts are I’m impressed with the quality and the way the ponytail feels. It’s not pulling on my hair, it’s not heavy, and it just feels like I have my hair up in a ponytail.
At first, I was a bit worried because I’d never had a fake ponytail before, but then I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to apply. I also think that the color matches my hair color really well.
I also want to mention that you should go for extensions that are made well and they won’t shed at all. If you go for the cheapest option out there, it just won’t be as good. You want something that is high quality and will last.
If you don’t want to grow your hair out and have the job of maintaining your long hair, opting for a faux ponytail is a great option.
Enjoyed the project?
