How to Make a Cute Handmade Makeup Bag Out of Old Denim

Here’s another great way to upcycle some old denim jeans. Follow along with this tutorial and I’ll show you how to make a DIY makeup bag. This bag could also be used as a great pencil case for anyone heading back to school, or a travel bag for your small electronic accessories.
Possibly best of all – there is no sewing required for these denim recycling ideas.
Tools and materials:
- Old denim jeans
- Zipper
- Ruler
- Marker
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue
1. Cut your denim
From a pant leg of your old denim jeans, cut a 26 x 14-centimeter (10.2 x 5.5-inch) rectangle on the fold.
2. Attach a zipper
Open the denim rectangle and cut a zipper to fit the width of your bag.
Pin the zipper, face-up, to the inside of your bag, over the seam.
Turn in the bottom edge of your bag 1 centimeter (0.39 inches) and iron flat.
Use a glue gun to apply glue to one side of the zipper, and then fold up the bag on that side and glue the turned-up edge to the zipper.
Iron in place.
Repeat on the other side.
With the bag inside out, trim away any excess denim that extends beyond the sides of the zipper.
3. Seal the sides of the bag
Pin and hot glue both side seams of the bag.
Then iron those seams.
Trim off any excess zipper from the ends.
4. Make corners
For each of the four corners of the bottom of the bag, flatten the corner into a triangle.
Mark a line 2.5 centimeters (0.98 inches) from the point of the triangle, and cut off the point of the triangle at that line.
Then glue the corner shut.
Iron the glued corner.
Handmade makeup bag
Turn your handmade makeup bag right-side out and start filling it up! You could also use this bag as a pencil case or travel bag. Once you make your upcycled denim bag, leave a comment to let me know what you filled yours with.
There are so many ways to be creative with these DIY denim bags, that you might need to make more than one!

Hi Nina, Great Idea to use hot glue for the seams and zipper but, have you washed the bag yet and did it hold up?
