Hi, guys! In this tutorial, we’re going to be making a healing balm which is basically a DIY body cream to help heal any scars, sores, and small abrasions or injuries nice and fast.

I have a bad habit of popping my pimples! It’s not good for your skin and causes scars, so I decided to make this healing balm to help heal the area.

Tools and materials:

  • ½ cup of extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ cup of coconut oil
  • ⅓ cup dried lavender (or 20 drops of lavender essential oil)
  • 5 drops of lavender essential oil (if using dried lavender flowers)
  • ⅓ cup of dried calendula
  • 4 TBSP of beeswax pellets
  • 1 TBSP of honey
  • 10 drops of tea tree essential oil
Making a double boiler

1. Make a double boiler

To make a double boiler, just fill a pot with water and place a bowl over the top of it.

Turn the stove on low heat, not high, as you want the oils to infuse together as you start adding in the other ingredients.

Oils in the bowl

2. Add the main oils to the bowl

Add ½ cup of coconut oil and ½ cup of extra virgin olive oil to the bowl.

Allow the coconut oil to melt and then mix it together with a spoon until the oils are well combined.

Adding herbs

3. Add the herbs (or corresponding oils) to the bowl

Add in ⅓ cup of dried calendula and ⅓ cup of dried lavender flowers to the bowl and let that infuse for 30 minutes.

If you’re not using dried herbs, you can go ahead and add the corresponding oils and let that infuse for five minutes instead. I have calendula oil already made, so I’m going to use that instead of the herbs.

You can choose to let the oils infuse on or off the heat. I decided to take it off as I thought that heating it might take away some of the properties. Just remember to put it back on when you add the other ingredients.

4. Strain your oils (optional)

If you used the dried herbs, before moving on to the next step, strain your mixture through a fine mesh sieve before putting it back on the heat.

Adding beeswax pellets

5. Add beeswax pellets to the bowl

Add 4 TBSP of beeswax pellets and stir until the pellets are completely melted.

Adding honey

6. Add honey to the bowl (optional)

Add 1 TBSP of honey to the bowl and stir for a minute.

This is an optional ingredient, but honey has many healing properties, so I’m using it. Make sure it’s fully dissolved before adding other ingredients.

Adding essential oils

7. Add essential oils to the bowl

Remove the mixture from heat and add in the essential oils.

Add in 20 drops of lavender oil (or 5 if you used dried lavender herbs) and 10 drops of tea tree oil. Stir until well combined.

8. Jar

Pour your mixture into either one large glass jar or two small glass jars. Use a funnel if necessary.

Once you pour them into the glass jars, they’ll begin to immediately solidify, and it’ll take around 12-15 minutes to completely solidify.

If you use honey, you’ll need to stir it every two minutes to prevent it from settling at the bottom of the jar.

This healing balm will keep at room temperature for about 12 months which is a year’s worth of cream to use on any cuts or abrasions.

It smells amazing and it’s so moisturizing and soothing on your skin. To use, you’ll only need a tiny bit as it is quite oily, so you don’t want to smother your skin.
