If you normally use powder blush but want to switch to using cream blush, don’t be intimidated. Follow this tutorial to learn how to use cream blush and specifically how to apply it to mature skin over 40.

Cream blush works well for all skin and gives a nice fresh-faced look because it seeps into your skin in a way that powder blush doesn’t. Let's get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Setting powder
  • Cheek and lip mousse
  • Cream highlighter
  • Makeup brushes
Prepping skin with foundation and concealer

1. Prep your skin

Get your skin ready for the cream blush by applying your foundation, concealer, and setting powder, if you use it.

2. Apply cream blush with fingers

I'm using this cheek and lip mousse blush. I dip my finger in the blush, then apply a couple of dabs of cream blush to my cheeks.

How to use cream blush

Swipe or press the blush into your skin.

Blending the cream blush with a brush

Then, use a clean makeup brush to airbrush the cream blush into your cheek until it is blended in well enough that it looks more like a natural flush on your skin than a coat of blush. Add a bit more color and repeat the blending process if you like a rosier look to your cheeks.

When you are blending the cream blush, take your brush all the way up your cheek to align with the top of your ear.

Applying a cream stick highlighter

3. Finish with some highlight

Use a creamy stick highlighter to get an even bright look. Dab your finger on the end of the stick and dot the highlighter at the top of your blushed-cheek area. Use your fingertip to blend in the highlighter.
