In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to cut curtain bangs at home.

My bangs have gotten so long that they blend with the rest of my hair, so I’m going to trim them today and take you guys along. Let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Hair scissors
  • Fine-toothed comb
  • Curling iron
Separating bangs

1. Separate your bangs

Use a fine-toothed comb to separate the hair for your bangs in a triangle shape.

I did a slightly larger triangle than usual because I like the swoop that you create with curtain bangs to be more prominent than it is now.

Separating bangs

Do the same thing on the other side, and try to make it symmetrical.

2. Cut and reshape the bangs

Cut your bangs at a slight angle, starting just above your nose.

Make sure you’re doing this with relatively new and sharp scissors to avoid splitting your hair.

Cutting bangs

Use the comb to hold your bangs in place. This will lessen any jostling so you can avoid an uneven cut.

Progress shot

Here’s what one side looks like after cutting it.

As you can tell, the hair in the front is shorter than in the back, but because we cut at an angle, the hair smoothly incorporates together instead of looking choppy.

3. Curl the bangs

The biggest downside to having curtain bangs is that they require constant styling.

When you don’t style them, they can look very bad, so to get the best look, we’re going to curl them with a curling iron.

Clamp the iron down at the root and wrap your bangs over the top of the curling iron.

Hold it for a few seconds, and then roll the iron so you’re getting all of the hair tight around the wand.

Releasing curl

Slowly pull the iron out to release the curl and brush the bangs back with your fingers into a swoop.

Progress shot

The bangs should sit in that position without being held. Repeat on the other side.

4. Curl the hair next to the bangs

You can also curl the hair that sits next to your bangs so it blends in nicely.

5. Curl your hair in the back

Curling your hair at the crown of your head can also give you more volume in the back.

Here’s the finished look! Curtain bangs are super fashionable right now, and while I liked my straight, wispy bangs, I’m currently loving the glamorous look.
