Easy Curly Hair Routine: How to Style Long, Curly Hair
Bonjour all! Today, I’m showing you how to style long, curly hair right after a trim, including what products I used.
Follow along with this step-by-step curly hair routine to get a more voluminous but less defined curl pattern.
Tools and materials:
- Conditioning wash for curls
- Deep conditioner
- Microfiber towel
- Detangling brush
- Leave-in conditioner
- Mousse
- Curl gel
- Hair dryer diffuser
1. Cleanse and deep condition your hair
Start off with clean hair. I used a conditioning wash formulated especially for curls.
Then apply a deep conditioner, but don’t rinse it out.
2. Towel-dry and detangle
Towel-dry your hair with a microfiber towel. Then detangle your hair with a brush which ensures even distribution of the product.
3. Apply 3 post-shower products
Apply leave-in conditioner, concentrating mostly on the length of the hair. Use the detangling brush to help distribute this as well.
To maintain volume at the roots, just apply a few sprays to your hands and gently pat the top.
Use a claw clip to clip up half of your hair to your crown. Divide the remaining hair into 3 sections.
Now apply mousse as close to the roots as possible, one section at a time. Then brush through each section.
Finally, put curl gel in your hands and scrunch up your curls.
(Alternatively, apply the gel directly over the mousse before brushing them both through and scrunching the curls.)
Continue these steps for all the sections of your hair. You can split the top section more if you have thick layers.
Allow the products time to soak into the hair before diffusing.
4. Diffuse your curls
Flip your head and diffuse your curls.
Here are my curls directly after diffusing-I like the smoothness but I feel a bit of a cast from the products.
Here my hair has had time to fluff up after roughly 45 minutes:
I’m loving the results! Keep in mind that I’m going for this amount of frizz at the roots for the sake of volume.
Going down, the hair looks moisturized, healthy and more defined. I applied the various products in this specific way to achieve these exact results.
The curls in the back look great as well!
