How to Style Curly Hair After Showering
I don’t know about you but I’m tired of spending so much time styling my hair!
Learn how to style curly hair after the shower by following my step-by-step curly hair routine. You’ll save so much time styling your hair!
Start with your regular, wash day routine. I applied shampoo and conditioner followed by a hair mask.
Tools and materials:
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Hair mask
- Leave-in conditioner
- Fine toothed comb
- Curl-defining heat and humidity gel
- Alligator clip
- Microfiber towel
- Hairdryer with diffuser
1. Apply leave-in conditioner
Apply leave-in conditioner mostly on the lengths of your hair. Leaving out the roots will help maintain the natural volume of your curls/waves.
2. Comb your hair
Run a fine-toothed comb through your hair to help distribute the leave-in conditioner.
3. Apply gel
Next, apply a curl-defining, heat and humidity gel, mainly to your roots, where you will want your curls to last the longest.
4. Scrunch the majority of your hair
Clip up a small section of hair from the middle/top of your head.
Then scrunch the rest of the hair with your hand, section by section to boost your natural curl pattern.
Twist any stubborn hair around your finger to give it a little help.
This should be super quick. When you get to the back, lift up some hair to be able to scrunch the hair underneath.
5. Hand curl the top section
Unclip the top section, grab a smaller amount of hair and shake to release individual curls.
Then wrap each curl around your finger to give them more definition.
Try your best to twist adjacent curls in opposite directions to prevent them from clumping together.
6. Shake to boost your curls
Flip your hair and shake all the hair in one direction, then flip your hair to the other side and shake in that direction.
Scrunch your hair more with your hands.
7. Remove excess moisture
Use a microfiber towel to gently scrunch out the excess moisture and product so as not to weigh down the curls.
8. Diffuse your curls
Diffuse your curls at a low speed and low heat to be gentle on your hair. Here’s my hair after diffusing:
These curls look naturally defined and they are staying in place. My roots are not weighed down by any product. The curls look even all around:
