How to Make Cute DIY Valentine Earrings With Resin & Heart Confetti
Today, I'm going to be making DIY Valentine earrings with resin. If you've never used resin before, follow this demonstration where I do it myself for the first time and share my experience with you!
You’ll learn how to use resin, the materials you’ll need, and safety precautions for working with resin. But even better, you’ll end up with some cute DIY Valentine’s Day earrings!
Tools and materials:
- Protective mask and goggles
- Disposable gloves
- Two-part epoxy resin
- Resin colorant
- Earring molds
- Measuring cups
- Mixing sticks
- Toothpicks
- Decorative confetti hearts
- Earring hardware
1. Get ready and be safe
Resin has a strong toxic smell, so it’s best to work outside or in a well-ventilated area. Before you begin, put on your protective mask and goggles.
2. Prepare the resin
Measure ½ cup of each part of the epoxy resin into its own measuring cup.
Then, combine both parts in one cup. Stir slowly and carefully to combine, using a stir stick.
3. Create the molds
Carefully transfer a quarter cup of mixed resin into a smaller measuring cup.
Cover the surface of the poured resin with decorative heart confetti.
Stir the hearts into the resin slowly and carefully using a stir stick.
Pour the stirred resin and hearts into earring molds. If you need to distribute the hearts more evenly than they have poured out, transfer them from the measuring cup to the mold using a stir stick.
Initially fill the molds only halfway full. Then fill the molds the rest of the way with the plain mixed resin, with no hearts mixed in. That will encapsulate the hearts in your earrings.
Let the resin completely harden in the molds for 24 hours. If you want, you can also use a UV nail light after 24 hours to cure the resin a bit more.
Once the resin has hardened, pop the earrings out of the molds and put them on a flat, dry surface. Don’t put them on parchment paper, because they may still be a bit tacky and will stick to the parchment paper.
You can see how the heart confetti is totally enclosed in the resin.
4. Attach the hardware
Now you can attach the earring hardware.
You don’t have to make them all into earrings. You can use different loops and chains to make them into necklaces or charms too.
