What are Facial Cleansing Grains?

Cleansing grains are a powdered facial cleanser and exfoliator usually made with dried plants, oats and/or clay. They are wonderfully natural and gentle—perfect for sensitive skin!

Ingredients

Dried lavender buds: Lavender is a wonderful ally when it comes to skincare. It is beautifully soothing and healing for acne and other skin irritations and has natural antibacterial properties to boot. It also makes anything smell heavenly!

Dried chamomile blossoms: Not unlike lavender, chamomile is very soothing for skin irritations and is a natural anti-inflammatory with mild astringent properties.

Oat flour: Oat flour provides the bulk of the exfoliation to be enjoyed when using this product. When used in facial cleansing grains, it has almost moisturizing-like properties, serving to soften and soothe the skin.

Bentonite clay: Clay is calming in its own right, but also good at lifting and absorbing impurities from the skin. It provides the bulk of the cleansing power to be found in this DIY recipe.

How Do You Use Facial Cleansing Grains?

Mix one part facial cleansing grains with one part water. Lightly run the mixture all over your face in a circular motion using the tips of your fingers for at least 30 seconds (and up to 2 minutes). Rinse with cool water, then gently pat your face dry with a towel.

Note: You will only need a dime-sized (approx. 1/2 teaspoon) amount of facial cleansing grains per cleansing session.

FAQ

Can I make my own oat flour?

Yes! While I find the store-bought variety to be finer and more gentle, you can easily make your own by blending rolled oats in a blender or food processor until a powder forms.

Can I use a different clay?

Yes. You can certainly use any cosmetic clay your prefer. French green, rhassoul, kaolin and Brazilian are all excellent choices!
