Quick and Easy Ombre Gel Nails Tutorial
Ombre gel nails are so beautiful, and you can create them yourself at home!
Follow this tutorial and learn how to do ombre nails with gel polish. Use my color suggestions, or pick your own favorite color combination.
I have used false nails for this tutorial, but you can certainly do this on your natural nails, too.
Tools and materials:
- Clear gel base coat
- Clear gel top coat
- 2 shades of pink gel polish
- Light blue gel polish
- Small makeup brush for cleaning
1. Base coat
Apply a clear gel base coat over all your nails.
2. First color coat
Apply a thin layer of rose-pink gel polish over all your nails.
Use a small brush dipped in acetone to clean up any spill-over of polish around the edges of your nails or cuticle area.
3. Second color
Apply one coat of a slightly deeper pink gel polish over all your nails.
Clean the edges as you did in step 2.
4. Third color, for the ombre
Apply light blue gel polish to the flat end of a small makeup sponge.
Lightly dab the polish onto the end of your nails.
5. Create the ombre effect
Without adding more blue polish to your sponge, begin lightly dabbing the polish that’s remaining on your sponge.
Bring some of the blue from the end of your nails down toward the bottom of your nails, to the point where you want your ombre to start.
Cure your nails, and then repeat steps 4 and 5, bringing the blue down just a bit, stopping the ombre before the end of the first ombre dab.
Now, for the third layer of blue, take the gel polish straight from the bottle and apply it straight onto the ends of your nails.
Then, use your sponge to dab over the last layer of blue so it blends with the previous layer of blue.
Do not drag this layer down your nail. You are just trying to get the edges blended in.
4. Top coat
Finish with an application of clear gel top coat.
