Don't you hate it when you come across a cute skirt, it's the last one left, but it's too big, instead of passing it by, try this easy trick to resize it!

In this case, it was a cute 2 piece set I found on clearance at Walmart. The top was elastic and ran smaller, but the skirt did not.

This set was just $19.60 at Walmart. I loved the summer colors but it was the wrong size. A quick trip down the sewing aisle for $2 elastic saved the day.

Elastic comes in different widths, the skirt had thin seams so I bought the smallest one they had. Put a safety pin near the end of your elastic, you don't want to put it at the tip but a little farther back.

This already had an elastic waist so I would be putting the elastic band in between the 2 seams to make it a drawstring which would create a cinch style waist. I used my seam ripper to make a small hole in the center front of the waist. Make sure to do this gently and not go through the other side of the fabric.

Feed the elastic all the way through to the other end of the skirt so it comes out on the other side of the hole you created. You want to go slow on this, making sure not to rip any of the fabric on the outside. Once it was through, I left the elastic extra long so I could adjust the size once I had it on and would cut them to size later. I wanted the ends to be long enough that others could wear it too.

Once you have both ends, hand sew the raw edge so it does not unravel, making sure to not sew the elastic. Tie the ends of the elastic in a knot so they don't slip back through the hole.

This was the skirt before, my daughter put it on for me so I could show the actual size of the waist, she did not stretch it too far.

Pulling the elastic taught and tying it in a bow, the skirt now fits perfectly. It's on the inside of the waist so it is hidden from view. The skirt can go from an XS to an XL by how tight you tie the bow.

I did the same procedure with the top, putting elastic in the top and bottom hem, and adjusting it to size. I added the pink belt to tie all the accessories together.

Hot pink wedges and a large floppy hat turn this into a great summer outfit. The skirt can be worn with so many things, and I can share it with my daughters who also love it! What a great $22 investment!

Blessings,

Eden
