Hey guys! I’m going to show you a really easy way to salvage a stained blouse.

If you don’t have a stained blouse to salvage this is also just a very cool way to repurpose an old dress shirt. Grab your scissors and let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Sewing needle or machine
Cutting shirt

1. Cut and crop

Lay your shirt flat and cut off the bottom to make it into a crop top.

Let’s make it even more interesting by making it backless. Cut an arch shape across the entire back of the shirt.

Pinning and hemming

2. Pin and hem

Pin the cut edges of the bottom of the shirt and the cut-out back and sew a clean hem around the edges.

Creating straps

3. Create straps

Take the bottom half of the shirt and fold it in half. Cut two equal sized strips of fabric for making straps.

Creating straps

Fold the strips of fabric inwards lengthwise two times, pin and sew.

Then pin and sew them about 3 inches up from the bottom of the shirt.

4. Wear two ways

Now that the shirt is finished, you can wear it one of two ways.

You can tie the straps at the back.

Or, you can cross them over at the back, wrapping them around your waist and tying the straps at the front.

Isn’t this a great hack for repurposing an old shirt? I love it. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

The top back needs more work. The bottom is fine but the top of the cut out does not fit as it should. It needs to be resized - cut, reshaped, put in darts or gather - something!
