How to Make Easy Clip-on Earrings
Today, I want to share with you something all jewelry makers should know, and that’s how to make clip-on earrings by transforming regular earrings.
You’ll also learn how to make clip-on earrings from scratch. Just follow along with this simple tutorial.
Tools and materials:
- Earrings
- Jump rings
- Assorted pliers
- Clip-on earring hardware
Making clip-on earrings from scratch
1. Add a first jump ring
Make sure the earring is facing the correct way. Then, open a jump ring using 2 pliers.
Thread it through the small hole on the earring and close it with your pliers.
2. Add a second jump ring
Open another jump ring, attach it to the first ring and then close it.
3. Attach the clip-on hardware
Make sure you know which portion is the top of the clip-on earring hardware.
On this type, the round part is the top.
Then put the second jump ring on the open loop of the clip-on hardware.
Then just pinch it closed with pliers.
Converting regular earrings to be clip-on earrings
1. Remove regular earring hardware
Use round nose pliers to open the regular earring hardware. Then slip out the earring piece.
2. Attach the clip-on earring hardware
Make sure the earring piece is facing the right way and then slip its top jump ring into the open loop of the clip-on earring hardware.
Then close up the loop with pliers.
You may need to use 2 pairs of pliers, depending on the structure of the earring.
