Tools and materials:

  • Old sweater
  • Fabric marker
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Sewing thread

1. Create your mitten pattern

Lay your old sweater flat on your work surface.

Pick the spot on your sweater with the pattern that you would like to have on your mittens. 


Roughly trace the outline of your hands on your sweater, using a fabric marker. 


Leave some extra room around your hands.

2. Make your mittens

Cut out the pattern shape from both layers of your sweater.

Pin both layers of your mitten together with right sides facing in.

Sew around the perimeter of your mittens, leaving the wrist edge open.
