Casual Winter Outfit Ideas

Winter can be an uninspiring season for fashion as so little of our carefully-thought-out looks get seen properly! We are always covering up with heavy coats and it can feel pointless trying to put anything stylish together. But winter outfits are actually some of my favourites.

A fashion tip I recently picked up while visiting Berlin - obviously a very cold city - was to go for a monochromatic look underneath and then make the outfit all about your stylish, statement coat.

There are a number of beautiful coats on the market and I think if you are going to splurge anywhere, coats are a sensible thing to splurge on. They are often the main part of your outfit that people see and better quality coats will keep you warmer - there's not much point covering your chic outfit with a coat that doesn't even do its job properly!

Ted Baker is an excellent option for stylish and high-quality coats as they are often a wool and cashmere blend. They have some beautiful tailored options in wrap styles to show off your figure while still keeping you toasty warm. If you can find something that's around 70% wool content, that's a good sign that it will keep you cosy.

On a brisk Winter walk, your coat will need accessorising not only for optimum warmth but also to add a bit of personality to your outfit that people will actually see! I like more classic hats like fedoras and berets but they do have a habit of flying off in windy weather. Therefore I like to have a couple of neutral-coloured bobble hats in my collection to accessorise with any outfit, as these won't generally fly off. Earmuffs are also a cute option!

The crown jewel of my wardrobe is my Burberry scarf but you don't have to spend a fortune on a scarf to be stylish and cosy. There are plenty of beautiful chunky and/or blanket scarves on the high street, which are definitely worth adding to your collection for when you want to be really snuggly. But I like cashmere scarves best of all. These are often available for a low price from Brand Alley or secondhand websites, and are great for layering during the colder months.

If you haven't yet added a pair of over-the-knee boots to your wardrobe, please do so immediately! They go with so many outfits and make everything look extra stylish while also adding another layer of warmth. Mine are a bit scuffed and sad-looking from overuse so I'll be looking for new options from the likes of ASOS very soon. Supermarket brands like F&F at Tesco are also a really good option for affordable, durable footwear.
